10-009: Maximizing Postsecondary Completion for Dual-Credit and Early-College High School Students of Color

Sunday, April 22, 2012: 9:15 AM-10:15 AM
Grand Ballroom-Salon 11 (Orlando World Center Marriott)

Program Description: Cedar Valley College (CVC) and the Dallas County Community College District (DCCCD) have opened the dual-credit and early-college high school (ECHS) doors to meet state and community needs for providing higher education opportunities and increasing the postsecondary credential completion rate for low-income students, particularly Hispanics and African Americans. CVC has taken the lead in planning the five-year Completion by Design (CBD) Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation grant with the other six DCCCD colleges as part of the Texas CBD cadre. These CBD team members’ goal is to analyze the data and student success strategies that impacted completion rates for dual-credit and ECHS students of color in order to create a model pathway for improving the successful college completion rate of DCCCD minority students.
