20-014: Iowa's Lobbying Model: Building Public and Legislative Support of Community Colleges

Sunday, April 22, 2012: 2:30 PM-3:30 PM
Canary Ballroom-Salon 2 (Orlando World Center Marriott)

Program Description: The Iowa Community College Legislative System is unique, with a powerful structure built upon people, passion, and partnering. Our 15 community colleges have evolved a joint engagement and lobbying model that blends a statewide political action committee (PAC), contract lobbyists, legislative liaisons at each college, grassroots letter writing, partnerships with business and industry, and personal engagement with legislators, on both the local and statewide levels, into an effective program that has yielded positive results, even in today's difficult economic climate.
