Program Description: Funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Completion by Design (CBD) is an ambitious community college re-design effort focused on increasing completion rates for large numbers of students while containing costs, maintaining access, and ensuring the quality of programs and credentials. Starting with 21 colleges in 4 states, CBD is much more than a grant program — it represents a bold new step in the ongoing effort to transform community colleges to support students’ academic and career success. Bolstered by existing innovations and fueled by leadership that is truly committed to change, these community colleges are well positioned to serve as models of reform for colleges across the United States. In this panel discussion, CBD representatives will share highlights from the planning year, as well as practical advice about undertaking deep, systemic reform.
