30-023: Invisible Barriers to Student Success: Community Partnerships Retain Special Student Populations (presented by NCBAA, an AACC affiliate council)

Program Description: Explore the systemic challenges of and solutions for a growing population of students who have aged out of the foster care system and for a rising number of homeless students who are utilizing community college to thrive against all odds. Attendees will learn how the Cincinnati State Technical and Community College partnership with the University of Cincinnati Higher Education Mentor Initiative supports students who lack academic preparation and family support. Hear how mentors assist high school students in enrolling and completing classes at the College, as well as helping to transfer to the University. The speakers will discuss the accessible resources that homeless students can utilize through the Lighthouse Youth Services resource center and outreach program to connect to numerous services.
